Devon crowned county champions
Devonshire's senior table tennis first team have become the 2007/08 county champions after winning the senior Premier Division by the narrowest of margins.
Devonshire saw off the challenge of seven other teams in the division to emerge champions by just one point.
The first weekend of action saw Devonshire, last year's champions Sussex and Middlesex tied for first place on five points apiece.
The squad of Craig Bryant, Chris Brown, James Whiteman, Jon May, Marketa Myskova and Sally Smith made a great start to the second and final weekend of action in defeating Gloucestershire 8-2 and Berkshire 9-1.
An excellent recovery from 3-1 down saw Devonshire fight back to secure a superb 7-3 victory.
The team then knew that a 5-5 draw against Middlesex would hand them the title.
However, with Middlesex leading 2-0 and then 4-2, things did not look good for Devonshire.
But Bryant secured his second victory by beating Tom Cutler 6-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-3, 11-8.
And Smith, who endured a tough match against Lindsay Armstrong, came from behind to win the match 7-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-2.
Myskova then won both her games to secure the 5-5 draw for Devonshire, which was enough for them to be champions.
The team's number ones - Bryant and Myskova - were undefeated all weekend, recording eight wins each.
Brown and Smith won five each with Whiteman (two) and May (one), who shared matches at number three, completing the scoring.
